Despite the advances in the treatment of cancer and the increasing knowledge of the processes responsible for the disease, there is a gap in the understanding of molecular events leading to cancer and the mechanisms of action by anticancer agents

The field of carcinogenesis is far from being completely explored. Many novel ideas and concepts still need to be introduced into the field, and the results of several provocative experiments are yet to be disseminated and shared. There is a need for multidisciplinary research in the field and a forum for accelerated publication of results.

OUR MISSION

The Mission of Carcinogenesis Foundation is to contribute to global efforts to understand genesis, prevent and cure cancer through Research and Education by fostering Community Participation and partnership.

Our Conviction

Carcinogenesis foundation believes that breakthroughs in cure for cancer is possible by Prevention, Research, Innovation, Medicines and Education

Our Goals
  • Educate communities on cancer prevention.
  • Provide latest information to public on cancers, early detection, risk factors, carcinoprevention and advances in treatment
  • Establish collaboration with international organizations and to create repositories of clinical samples for use in research that contributes to understanding of the carcinogenesis process.
  • Promote research that identifies cancer-promoting genes that are dormant under native environmental conditions but can be activated by factors of altered environmental conditions.
  • Promote research that identifies genetic differences that result in unique ethnic-specific responses to environmental signals leading to carcinogenesis and have a role in ethnicity specific cancer treatment.
  • Promote research that identifies natural products and diets that have cancer preventing and cancer curing properties.

The foundation will work collaboratively with academic institutions, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to identify way s and means to achieve these goals

 Our activities

Carcinogenesis foundation undertakes activities in four areas Research, Awareness, Care and Education.

The foundation publishes Journal of Carcinogenesis, which is a peer-reviewed professional journal in the field of carcinogenesis and carcinoprevention research.

The foundation publishes a monthly newsletter, CarciKnow News, which is the Voice of the foundation.

The foundation organizes professional conferences in the area of carcinogenesis and carcinoprevention research. The conferences are organized under the banner of "Frontiers in Carcinogenesis and Carcinoprevention Research".

WHO Recommendations for Cancer Prevention
  1. Maintain weight (among adults) such that BMI is in the range of 18.5-24.9 kg/m2 and avoid weight gain (>5 kg) during adult life.
  2. Maintain regular physical activity. The primary goal should be to perform physical activity on most days of the week; 60 minutes per day of moderate-intensity activity, such as walking, may be needed to maintain healthy body weight in otherwise sedentary people. More vigorous activity, such as fast walking, may give some additional benefits for cancer prevention.
  3. Consumption of alcoholic beverages is not recommended: if consumed, do not exceed two units per day.
  4. Chinese-style fermented salted fish should only be consumed in moderation, especially during childhood. Overall consumption of salt-preserved foods and salt should be moderate.
  5. Minimize exposure to aflatoxin in foods.
  6. Have a diet which includes at least 400 g per day of total fruits and vegetables.
  7. Those who are not vegetarian are advised to moderate consumption of preserved meat (e.g. sausages, salami, bacon, ham).
  8. Do not consume foods or drinks when they are at a very hot (scalding hot) temperature.
Lifestyle and Cancer incidence (Source: National Cancer Institute, USA)
  • 30-35% of cancers are related to dietary factors

  • Sedentarism is an important cause of cancer

  • 30% of cancers are related to smoking
  • Obesity is related to 14-20% of cancers in the US

  • Alcohol is resposible for about 3% of cancer deaths

  • Environmental factors, such as pollution and radiation, are contributors to cancer

  • En estimated 90% of colorectal cancers could be prevented by colonoscopy and other early detection testes

  • Early detection can decrease mortality by cervical, prostate and breast cancer.
